At Badsley Primary School we recognise our moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. We will be alert to signs of abuse and neglect and we will follow our procedures and policies to ensure that children receive effective support and protection. We endeavour to provide a safe and welcoming environment maintaining a culture of vigilance, where children are respected and valued. We will act quickly and follow our procedures to ensure students receive early help and effective support, protection and justice.
All staff receive annual safeguarding training in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education, as well as regular training and updates. We currently have two members of staff who are accredited Trauma Informed Practitioners and three members of staff with accedicated Mental Health First Aid Training.
The school has a robust system of reporting, monitoring and filtering any safeguarding concerns, with cases consistently reviewed and tracked by the Safeguarding team. The school has strong links with outside agencies to effectively support children and families and we also work in partnership with our trust schools to share good practice, updates and training. Safeguarding, including online safety is woven into our PHSE and Computing curriculum. We address issues surrounding mental health and safeguarding through our PHSE curriculum, regular assemblies and through other opportunities throughout the year for example, transition workshop for Year 6, and actitivities/ workshops as part of Mental Health Awareness Week, Anti-Bullying week and Safer Internet Day.
As a Rights Respecting School we believe our children have the right to be protected from being hurt and mistreated in body and mind. (Article 19)
At Badsley Primary we keep children safe by:
- Having an up to date child protection policy.
- Check the suitability of all our staff that work with children through stringent checking procedures.
- Have an open door policy where concerns can be shared in confidence.
- Ensure all our staff have up to date child protection and safeguarding training.
- Share information with appropriate agencies if we have concerns.
- Have identified members of staff who have responsibility for safeguarding.
- Have strong links with external advisors and professionals who regularly come in to school and work with our children.

Early Help - Rotherham
Rotherham Family Hubs
What is Operation Encompass?
The purpose of Operation Encompass is to safeguard and support children and young people who have been involved in a domestic abuse incident. Following an incident at home, children will often arrive at school distressed, upset and unprepared for the day.
Rotherham Council, the police and nominated Key Adults in school are working together, to make sure that school staff are made aware of an incident early enough to support pupils in school.
Why has Operation Encompass been introduced in ROTHERHAM?
Operation Encompass was initially launched in Plymouth in February 2011 to address a shortcoming in the early sharing of information with schools. Since then schemes have been set up across the UK, including Rotherham, and have proved to very successful in providing appropriate support in a timely manner for families and young people.
All schools in the borough are taking part in the scheme, to help provide additional new support which will benefit children and young people and improve multi agency sharing of information.
How does it work?
Schools across Rotherham have nominated two members of staff who will be known as Key Adults. Each morning South Yorkshire Police review all domestic abuse incidents that occur outside of school but which might have had an impact on a child attending school the following day. Where children were present, witnessed or involved in a domestic abuse incident and aged between 4 and 16 years old, the officer sends this information to Rotherham’s Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) who inform school in a secure format to the identified Key Adult. The Key Adult checks their emails every day and the staff in contact with those pupils will then be in an informed position to support them in a way that is right for the child.
This information will be shared on school days during school term and, when incidents occur on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday or over a holiday period, the police will contact MASH the following Monday.
