Forest School @ Badsley

Our Forest School area is a wonderful area to bring learning to life outside of the classroom. From deepening their understanding about the legacy left by the Ancient Greeks to experimenting with reversible and irreversible changes in science, our children immerse themselves in the Forest School experience.

Here's what our children think:

"I really enjoyed making Anglo-Saxon houses out of sticks and mud."

"I love how we made pictures using different materials from the area. We searched for the things we needed: stones, stick and pebbles. We arranged them on our paper and created different pictures which looked amazing!"

"I love that our Forest School sessions are so different to our normal lessons in the classroom. It's great being outside!"

The philosophy of Forest School is to encourage and inspire children through positive outdoor experiences. By participating in engaging, motivating and achievable tasks and activities in a woodland environment each child has an opportunity to develop intrinsic, motivation, self awareness and sound emotional and social skills.

Forest Schools have demonstrated success with children of all ages who visit the same local woodlands on a regular basis and through play, who have the opportunity to learn about the natural environment, how to handle risks and most importantly to use their own initiative to solve problems and co-operate with others.

Badsley Primary Forest School runs throughout the school year with support from Pop's Outdoor Adventure, going to the woods in all weathers (except for high winds). We have worked hard to develop our Forest School area to provide children with the best possible space to further their learning and development. Children use full sized tools, play, learn boundaries of behaviour; both physical and social, establish and grow in confidence, self-esteem and become self-motivated. Children experience their sessions, supported by Pop's, to further enrich their curriculum and personal development. Together with Pop's, teachers carefully plan their sessions to provide children with engaging experiences that compliment the learning that is taking place inside the classroom. Children are able to develop new skills and apply their prior learning in a different environment.

Forest School will aim to develop:

  • Self Awareness
  • Self Regulation
  • Intrinsic motivation
  • Empathy
  • Good social communication skills
  • Independence
  • A positive mental attitude, self-esteem and confidence
