At Badsley Primary School we pride ourselves on ensuring that all children, regardless of needs, are provided with an inclusive education and full access to a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum to reach their full potential. We understand that some children will require more support during their time at our school, whether that be support to aide them with their learning or support for their social and emotional wellbeing.  We understand that all children are different and the support provided for each child will not look the same. Our aim as an Inclusion team is to understand all children as individuals and tailor support to meet their own individual needs.

We aspire to ensure that we identify and assess early indicators of a special education need or disabilty at the earliest time so that approrpiate provision and support can be put in place at the soonest opportunity. School are eager to work with parents to support identification of needs. Where necessary school aim to aid parents with appropriate outside agency referrals.

We follow a graduated approach to assessing, planning, doing and reviewing the provision and progress of each child idenfied as having a special educational need or disability. We recognise the vital role parents have in supporting school to best meet the holistic needs of their children.

We work closely with a range of outside agencies (Educational Psychologists, Specialist Inclusion Team, Speech and Language Therapists, CAMHS, Neurodevelopmental Pathway to name a few) in order to best understand the needs of individuals and to best adapt provision to support the child in the most effective ways.

We prioritise effective in school and next stage transitions so children expereince smooth move to the next step of their education.

What is the LA Local Offer?

The Children and Families Bill was enacted in September 2014. From this date Local Authorities (LA) and schools are required to publish and keep under review information about services they expect to be available for children and young people with special educational needs (SEN) aged 0-25. The LA refers to this as the 'Local Offer' and can be found on the link below.

The intention of the Local Offer is to improve choice and transparency for families. It will also be an important resource for parents in understanding the range of services and provision locally.

What is the Special Education Needs Information Report?

Schools utilise the LA Local Offer to meet the needs of SEND pupils as determined by school policy and the provision that the school is able to provide. Schools refer to this as ‘The Special Education Needs Information Report’.  The Information Report for Badsley Primary School can be found in the document link above.

What is 'The Hive'?

The Hive at Badsley Primary School is a KS1 specialist enhanced provision (SEP) for young people with severe learning difficulties, complex needs, and autism.

Our Hive Learners...

Our Hive pupils have complex learning needs and barriers to learning. Formal learning is inappropriate for this group of pupils and initial work is centred around developing relationships with staff members and trying to understand a pupil’s learning profile.

For learners with complex needs life can become a fragmented series of events with little order. Without structure, learners may struggle to develop anticipation and memory. Therefore, it is essential to provide a simple, structured environment with ordered activities and routines.  Our practitioners will use their best judgement to design a timetable to best suit the needs of the individual learners.  Daily and weekly consistency is important and will be reflected on the timetable that will include interventions and activities such as PE and oudoor learning in our Forest School.
